Finding Joy in Design

Joy is a feeling that we all strive for in our daily lives.  The definition is a feeling of extreme happiness or cheerfullness, especailly related to the acquisition of expectation of something good. But in a TED Talk given by Ingrid Fetell Lee, she poses a very good question, "How do tangible things make us feel intangible joy?"

We all know, that joy can be found in the little things, like a warm cup of coffee in the morning or a hug from a loved one.  But sometimes, it can be hard to find joy in the midst of our busy and stressful lives.  In this blog post, we will explore tangible ways to find joy including how to use furniture styles in a room to evoke that feeling.

One of the ways to find joy is to surround yourself with furniture that makes you happy. Certain furniture styles can evoke feelings of warmth, comfort, and happiness. For example, mid-century modern furniture with its clean lines and retro vibe can bring a sense of playfulness to a room. Similarly, vintage furniture with its unique character and patina can add a sense of warmth and nostalgia to a space.

Another way to bring joy to a room is to incorporate furniture with organic shapes. Pieces that mimic nature such as wicker furniture or curved sofas can bring a sense of calm and serenity to a space. Designers also like to incorporate furniture with bright and bold colors as a simple way to envoke joy in a space. A piece of furniture in a bright color like yellow, orange, or pink can immediately bring a sense of warmth and happiness to a room. This can be a great way to add a pop of color to a neutral room or to create a fun and playful atmosphere.

In conclusion, joy is a feeling that can be found in the present moment and in the company of loved ones. The answer to finding joy is probably different for everyone, but by focusing on the small things and surrounding yourself with specific furniture styles, colors, and shapes in a room, you can evoke feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness in your space.
