ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist HES Manager in working with Supervisors, Employees and Division Managers to maintain the levels of compliance with the Safety and Health Management System of Best Home Furnishings. This includes working towards VPP compliance.
  • Monitor and orders safety supplies.
  • Coordinate monthly safety meetings at request of HES Manager.
  • Provide training materials for monthly departmental meetings and shop floor safe work practices.
  • Perform required initial training and refreshers with Supervisors as well as employees on: 
    • Powered Industrial Trucks (class room training; observe driving training; audit drivers on shop floor – 150 operators) 
    • Lockout/Tagout (classroom training; observe supervisor in practical training on shop floor) 
    • Hearing Conservation Program (hearing testing; noise level testing) 
    • STOP safety training
  • Assist with new hire safety orientation and prepare new hire safety materials.
  • Maintain data base for Worker’s Compensation Cost Containment and Stop Audits.
  • Input incident / safety suggestions.
  • Process Worker’s Compensation billings. Balances billing statement against Cost Containment system.
  • Work with physicians and therapists in scheduling appointments and Early Intervention Program. Includes tracking and sending notices to employees regarding appointments.
  • Conduct regular fire drills, fire extinguisher training, tone tests and weather emergency drills at all locations including satellite locations.
  • Inspect office fire extinguishers and emergency lights on a monthly basis.
  • Perform recordkeeping for air permits at Jasper plant and maintain storm water documentation and sampling at Ferdinand and Jasper.
  • Maintain semi-annual electrical glove testing schedule.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Plus the ability to learn and adapt to varied work assignments and function well in a team environment.
