Driving for NASCAR requires nerves of steel. But Joey's most courageous moment happened six years ago, when he was just 18. His mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving him to make a decision about organ donation.
He decided to let her organs give the gift of life - and he's been a passionate advocate for organ donation ever since. It's a passion that gives purpose to his racing, and his race career offers a platform for raising awareness. Between races, he makes regular appearances at hospitals and Donate Life events.
"I think it's really helped both of us [Joey and younger sister Ashley] get past all that. To just know that mom is still living out there in different ways."
Joey is known and respected for his hard-racing style and humble attitude. At the Daytona 500, Quaker State 400 and Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, Joey will be driving a Toyota Camry for BK Racing.
