THE HISTORY OF BEST HOME FURNISHINGS

Best Chairs was founded in October, 1962 in an old cannery building by Ernest Prechtel and current Chairman Clem Lange with a basic principle: build the best quality products at the most affordable price. The two had been working as upholsterers for a local manufacturer, but the company's lack of work and financial instability drove the two to pursue their own enterprise. Things were rough starting out. Business was not strong, and production was limited to repairing old furniture and reupholstering truck seats. In March of 1963, the two entrepreneurs purchased an old store building and opened a production line to the tune of only five employees which included the two founders, Clem and Ernest.

By 1968, Best Chairs had expanded five times, employed 17 people and their product line consisted of modern, traditional and Early American occasional chairs with 325 fabrics to choose from. Daily production ranged between 60-120 chairs.
